MMU Digital Portfolio

This is my 1960's inspired shift dress designs, inspired by Pop art and the flower power/ hippie movement. I used watercolour pencils and watercolour paints. I experimented with a variety of colours and collars to suit my themes including bright blocks of colours for pop art and beautiful tie dye, flowery patterns for the flower power/hippie inspired dresses.

My 1960's final design sheet is based on the flower power/ hippie movement and Dandelion puffs. I used watercolour paints for the hair and skin colour I also fine lined around it. For the dress I used the fine liner and got water to wash over it this meant that the ink bled slightly giving the look that I want for my dress.
My evaluation sheet (top) gives an overview of what I did to make my dress I inluded pictures of Valentino's collection as he used Dandelion puffs in his new collection. I included an illustration of my dress which I fine lined and gave a wash over, I also put samples I used. I hand embroidered dandelion puff heads using a spider web technique and french knot. For the next evaluation page (bottom) I put pictures of my finished dress and created dandelion puffs on tracing paper using Pro- Markers. I wrote about what I think went well and what I think could of gone better.

This is a front and back view of my finished garment this was based on the flower power/ hippie movemnt. It went exactly how I wanted and the dandelion puffs which were machine embroidered look and are exactly how I wanted it too.

This is and experimental page of beetles using a range of different inks and fine liners. We also tested them on different backgrounds I loved the book paper with the writing on it because I love the effect of the drawing and the text behind it.

These two pages pen drawings and based on natural forms I used leaves, shells and bark from a tree to draw. I used black fine liner and ball point pen. I used the methods of cross hatching and stippling to get my effect. I also used magazine cuttings as a background on my second page.

My textiles page is range of Shibori dye tecniques, tie dye techniques using inks and bleach. We also rolled acrylic paints and rolled them onto hessian fabric which I then screen printed a wasp on it and embroidered by machine the wings. I also did a selection of pencil, watercolour pencil and pen beetle drawings and also lino prints of a fly.

This page of textiles work is again shibori techniques, ink and bleach tie dye and acrylic paint rolled onto hessian fabric. The effects of the Shibori and tie dye techniques are exactly what I want to use in any future projects.
My CAD beetle drawings created on Adobe Illustrator are a mixture of stag beetles, lady birds and flys. I used the line tool to go round the edge of the beetles and then used the eye dropper to get the right colour of the beetles.
The top page is a selection of different bags using the theme of under the sea. I was inspired by the likes of sea leaves, sharks, the tide, oysters and shells. I used watercolour paints and watercolour pencils. The bottom page is a selection of bag designs of the bag that I am actually creating. I am doing a bangle bag on the clavularia sea leaf. I was inspired to used a lot of different types of colours because they glow in the dark. I created this using watercolour paint and pencils and coloured fine liners.
Karen Margulis who is an artist who used pastels was my inspiration for my shell drawings. I used pastel and different tea's; normal and strawberry tea to act as a background. I studdied four different types of shells (shape and colour) in front of me and drew them. I included the shaddow to add depth and make the stand out more instead of looking flat and boring.

The first page (left) is of two different types of leaves and an apple which I did in pencil and shaded in. I created shaddow to add depth and had these objects directly infront of me so I could copy it how it directly was infront of me. The second page (right) is a page of experimental natural forms work. I rubbed over a leaf in different colours and then drew near it to show the comparisment. I graphited small leaves and watercoloured an Oak leaf. The background was created using tea and brown and orange paint.
This is two pages of natural form inspired coats. This consisted in being inspired by leaves, bark, fur, flowers and acorns. I used watercolour pencils to create my illustrations.
This Natural forms inspired coat called the darling coat was inspired by leaves (dark green drilled fabric) and bark (knitting). I created the hood long as it is different and unusual. I used dark green drilled fabric, gold lining and dark red and brown/grey rustic wool. This coat was featured on the fashion show for universities and colleges for the Clothes show live in Birminham.

This is a CAD design sheet of my natuaral forms coat. I created this on Adobe Photoshop. I scanned the fabric in and the illustration so I could go over it using photoshop.

My company magazine covers created on Adobe illustrator are of Niall horan inspired by Julian Opie and Taylor swift inspired by Jason Brooks. I researched other company magazines to look at the layout of the magazines and then created my own version. I also got pictures of clothes that would feature inside the magazine which relate to the front of the magazine.

The swing tickets and logo design were both created free hand on Adobe Illustrator I was looking for someting classic like Dior, Chanel and Schiapareli yet something girly so I used the colours pink, purple and blue. The swing tickets are a mixture of pink, purple and flowers at the bottom. I included information on them such as size, colour of garments. The company magazine inspired by Miles Donovan and Kate Gibb was created on Adobe Photoshop the picture is of Mariyn Monroe with a london phone booth and a scene of London in different colours.

My All white/ Fabric Manipulation garment is a corset and a skirt made using polyester satin fabric. The organza was ruffled at the neck and attatched to a piece of organza which goes over the corset, on this is pearls and sequins. On the skirt is pleated ribbons which create flowers and on these ribbons are pearls in the middle. The corset is tied with a white shoe lace and around the bust of the corset is a lace ribbon.
